Gito Gito Hustler, an all-girl punk band from Tokyo played The Hexagon Bar earlier this month on October 5th, 2007.
"Do you like beer? We like beer!"
The very first time I walked into the Hexagon Bar I thought: Wow, here's a quintessential Midwest bar. I did not think, hey, this would be a great place for a Japanese-girl band to play. And it probably isn't, but this one had no trouble winning over the crowd. Particularly charming was the "Hello, Thank You, and please buy our album cause we need gas money" speech (read in translation from a crumbled sheet of paper). There were also shout-outs to White Castle and K-mart lovers in the audience. Fellow Japanese rockers Birthday Suits were in the audience and I suspect that explains how this cultural anomaly ended up at The Hex.
