11/11/2007 Clapperclaw Forecasts Guystorm to Hit Twin Cities
The Guystorm are new. Brand spanking, "I listen to bands that don't exist yet" T-shirt, and "break out the dancing shoes" new. Their set at the
Clapperclaw Music + Art Festival in the
Sound Gallery last Friday tore into ebullient dancy rock 'n' roll with gale force. It may have been their second live gig, but the jitters were intentional and infectious.
Much of the lightning was provided by frontman
Angelo Pennacchio, who shimmies and howls like
Prince channeling
Iggy. Who in the frenzy of arms and hips, lyrics about parties, boredom, joy and desire, sent mic stands bouncing and bodies moving. Guitarist
Ryan Norton provided solid angular chords to twitch the head-bobs a little more frenetically, playing through a broken string with the slickness of his white leather moccasins.
The style and verve is well complemented by
Tanner Lien's pounding bass, necessary for any truly danceable band, and the constant rain of
Timmy Green's drums. Like a mid-summer thunderstorm, The Guystorm has blown in, and the tornado watch is on.
