Cocktails flowed. Ladies of all ages, shapes and sizes banged the Jingle Stick along to the music for all they were worth. Older gentlemen (and when I say older, I mean some even apparently in their 70s or even 80s) were busy filling in their dance cards, frequently with the names of women about one third their age. People were dressed variously as elves and reindeer, some men wearing t-shirts bearing pictures of candy canes and the slogan, “I’ve got something you can lick,” and women with t-shirts saying, “It’s not easy being NAUGHTY.” Alas, this year I did not see a blow up sex doll dressed as Santa Claus crowd surfing as I had a few years ago. But as I tried to make my way to center stage to take some photos, I was beaten over the head with a sprig of fake mistletoe and presented with a cheek to kiss to pay my passage.
Trashy Little Christmas features tons of holiday songs, adapted in zany and sometimes profane ways by the band. Their holiday albums are mainstays of Twin Cities Christmas fare and are still available for purchase on their website. (Talk about great Christmas gifts. This is holiday music that’s actually fun to listen to.)
The 2007 Trashy Little Christmas kicked off November 24th and runs every Saturday through December 22nd at Lee’s ($10). Music starts at 9:15 and the band plays until 1 a.m. This weekend, Saturday December 15th, the band is also doing a special family friendly show at The Eagle’s Club at 25th and 25th in SE Minneapolis. Cover for the family show is $5 for adults (21+); Kids 4-12 - $3; Toddlers and teens are free.
