6/22/2008 I'm Hopeful! Peavey Plaza Rocks Again...
It's summer and that means outdoor music! Great offerings start in July with Music & Movies in either Loring Park or Stevens Square, and the Minnesota Museum of American Art has those Thursday Patio Nights. However, those lucky enough to work in downtown Minneapolis can just head over after work various days of the week to Peavey Plaza.  After a long day, it's a refreshing thing to be able to grab a drink, eat some cheese curds and chill out on a bench watching a great local band. This week I was able to catch one of my favorites, The Hopefuls. Through lineup changes, being sued by the International Olympic Committee and the fact that between the band members they are in more than nine other groups, The Hopefuls have held it together. They were just as energetic as they were when I first saw them in 2005 and they're finally working on a new album, which will (hopefully) come out this year on their own label. The crowd bounced, jiggled, flailed and had an all-around good time. It was impressive and I heard many people wondering why The Hopefuls weren't a national powerhouse. Well, the short answer is they've been busy, but now's the time boys. Judging by the huge crowd on Thursday night, Minneapolis is rooting for you.
