9/30/2009 Red Pens at Clubhouse Jager's Jagerfest
Unless you're living under a rock, you may have noticed that Red Pens (featured on the cover of this week's City Pages) just clinched the number 1 spot in the alternative weekly's annual "Picked to Click" poll.  A lucky several hundred people, including myself, saw them at Clubhouse Jager's Jagerfest Saturday on one of the last nice days of weather the Twin Cities has seen in a while.  The two piece band of Laura F. Bennett and Howard W. Hamiliton III ripped through a set that showcased exactly why so many people in town are excited about them right now.  Their fuzzy, raw energy, with a catchy, grungy undercurrent reminded some of a sound that exists somewhere between early White Stripes and The Jesus and Mary Chain.

As the sun went down on the Jager patio, the moody lighting and the backdrop of an apartment building allowed me to snap one of my own favorite photos in a while of the duo.  Click here for the full set, or here to watch several videos from the show.

We also feature a track from Red Pens on the October, HowWasTheShow podcast.
