8/4/2007 Craig Finn of The Hold Steady at Lollapalooza
The Hold Steady was the third group of Minnesotans to take the stage on Saturday at this year's Lollapalooza.  Just prior to their set, Tapes 'N Tapes and Motion City Soundtrack had both rocked the faces of festival patrons right off.  Lead singer Craig Finn was by far the most entertaining person of the weekend, bouncing around the stage like a marionette who'd broken free of his strings.  Finn took a quick moment to acknowledge the recent accident here in the Cities by wearing his number 35 Twins jersey and making the sign of the cross during "Stuck Between Stations":

these twin city kisses.
sound like clicks and hisses.
and we all come down and drown in the mississippi river

Throughout the weekend every single person who discovered the Twin Cities were my home asked about my friends and family and expressed sympathy for the tragedy that occurred.  That was a wonderful feeling and made things that much easier to deal with.  Music, as we all know, is a great healer and lucky for me I had The Hold Steady on my side at Lollapalooza.
